Pear Tree – March 2024

Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta

“I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.”― Dolly Parton

I love this quote by Dolly Parton. We shouldn’t limit ourselves because of what others think.

We should not be ashamed of our accomplishments. We should not be ashamed of our successes. We should not be ashamed of our talents. We should not be ashamed to have multiple sources of income.

Let’s continue to lift each other up. Let’s share our light because as women, we’ve come a very long way!

Let’s not dim our light — or the light of each other! Rock on and make every moment memorable! You are woman — ROAR like the tiger you are!

There’s a lot of great things happening this month and I’m honored to be a part of them. Check it all out in the EVENTS section below.

Pear Tree – September 2023

Befriending a cat in Woodstock, NY

“Like leaves we touch, we see
We will know the story
As autumn calls we’ll both remember
All those many years ago…”

(Lyrics “Turn of the Century,” by Yes, composed by Alan White, Steve Howe, and Jon Anderson).

The reason I chose song lyrics about death is that last month, another friend passed.

His name was Richard. He, and his friend Karl approached me at Willowbrook Shopping Mall back in the autumn of 1980. They wanted to talk to me because I was wearing a Gary Numan shirt and they had also attended the concert. Who would have known from that meeting, I’d be a great fan of their band Pharoah, be in the band as part of the stage show, and later marry the bassist.

When you know people that long and are still in touch with them they are like family. (Richard called my husband and I from time to time and always told us he loved us). And it hurts so much when they are gone; and to see their ashes put in the ground.

This has been a helluva summer, first my mom passing, then being blindsided by the death of Richard.

May he rest in peace; he was absolutely awesome. You can read my special tribute to Richard on my regular blog: https://maryannemistretta.wordpress.com/2023/08/27/rest-in-peace-richard-ayala-aka-rik-fabio/

I try to stay strong because there’s a lot going on business-wise and people are depending on me. But truth be told, I’m still walking around like a zombie. Maybe next month I’ll feel better. Death takes its toll on your mind and body, that’s for sure. One day at a time.

Meanwhile, I’m very busy writing for Trenton Journal and Worrall Media. And my cat sitting business is over the top! All my repeat clients, plus two new ones decided to go on vacation at the same time. It’s been a cat dancing party every day and is going on until mid-September!

There are four “Going Going Gone” lectures coming up (see below) and one “Newies.”

Sales for “So You Think You Know the Jersey Shore?” are going super strong! It may be my biggest selling book yet!

And there’s a very special surprise in October!

Pear Tree – August 2023

Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta

“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” — Rumi

I probably talk about my career more than anyone I know. I just absolutely love it! Being an author, speaker, journalist (and most recently my cat sitting side business) — I’m living the dream.

Though the past month was rough, mourning the death of my mom (who died June 10, 2023), keeping busy doing things I love was very helpful. I didn’t dread getting up in the morning and looked forward to many of the super fun career things that happened last month — my second book signing for “So You Think You Know the Jersey Shore” at Caldwell Library and seeing some awesome friends; sitting some favorite cats; and interviewing people I highly admire, like supermodel Carol Alt!

I’m still existing in a bit of a grief fog and I do admit it can be hard taking it “one day at a time” but as hard as it is, I’m surrounded by amazing people in my career and in my life, who all make the journey a bit smoother for me. And I thank them!

This month I’ll be celebrating my 60th birthday and I am ecstatic about that!
