Pear Tree — September 2017

SAM_2907

Golden September — it’s a time to dream and a time to make those dreams come true. — James Kambos

“Dreams come true” seems to be the theme of my life. From time to time I look at my old paper journals, memory feeds in Facebook, and my old Pear Tree newsletters and it seems so many wonderful things have been experienced and accomplished.

I’m incredibly blessed for all the many people I have in my life; whether it’s love, friendships, or work — life just keeps getting better and better!

This month in particular, I look forward to having my third book “The Gypsy Smiled” published by GenZ on Sept. 15. Be on the look out for it!

WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?

Feel free to contact me regarding my services (writing, ghost writing, book editing, public speaking/lectures, and wedding officiant) at: MaryAnneChristiano@Gmail.com.

Pear Tree — August 2017

SAM_2883Ch-ch-ch-changes for me — and Pear Tree!

“When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.” Benjamin Franklin

Entering Pear Tree’s ninth year, there’s been some super positive changes!

First, after being solely self-employed over the past nine years, over a month ago I started working at my dream job – in the editorial department of a magazine! It’s such a blessing to be working with such a great team too.

So, what does that mean for Pear Tree? It means that Pear Tree will still be going strong! I am still freelancing for Vitamin Retailer, still helping others write their books, and giving lectures. The only difference is that lectures will be held solely on weekends.

It also means that while I’m a supersonic wonder woman who loves to work, I’ll also be taking some well-deserved vacations and time off. That said, there may be a bit of a waiting list for ghost writing/book editing, but be assured, that as always, Pear Tree is the business to call on! I have my dynamite copy editor Cynthia Santiglia helping me out; as well as a new team of vocalists assisting me with my Learn & Listen series. So, give a big Pear Tree welcome to Doreen Brusca Arminio, who will be my new Ella Fitzgerald; and Morissa Schwartz, who will be my new Janis Joplin.

Change is a good thing – embrace it!

And let’s not forget my third book “The Gypsy Smiled” will be out later this year. GenZ Publishing is shooting for October.

NOTE: Due to a highly productive schedule, Pear Tree had to cancel some lectures this summer. Pear Tree apologizes for any inconvenience.

Pear Tree — June 2017

SAM_2602Presby Iris Gardens, Montclair, NJ

“What in your life is calling you, When all the noise is silenced, The meetings adjourned … The lists laid aside, And the Wild Iris blooms By itself In the dark forest … What still pulls on your soul?” – Rumi

What pulls on your soul? I certainly don’t have to go to the dark forest to know that writing – in all forms, newspaper, magazine, books – is my greatest love. I’m very excited that “The Gypsy Smiled” will be published later this year by GenZ Publishing.

I’ve also been writing for New View Media and Vitamin Retailer Magazine. As well as blogging for various sources; and book editing.

Perhaps I can make your dreams come true too?

Pear Tree May 2017

Her photoIben Skjernaa Lyhne (left) and Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta (right)

“There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.” – Albert Schweitzer.

The super cool news last month was that I had the opportunity to meet Iben Skjernaa Lyhne, who is one of my non-profit ROAR (Respect Our Animals’ Rights) supporters – and her son Mads Emil Limon Lyhne.

They were visiting the U.S., from Denmark, and I’m so happy they fit me in their very busy schedule. It’s always fantastic meeting fellow animal lovers.

And speaking of animal lovers, be sure to check out my article for Vitamin Retailer, “It’s Reigning Cats & Dogs.” The link is below in the “journalism” section.

In other news, I am meeting with GenZ publisher Morissa Schwartz this month to go over the proofs for my first traditionally published book, “The Gypsy Smiled.” It will be out later this year and I cannot wait!

Pear Tree April 2017

SAM_2279

Maryanne Christiano Mistretta (left) and Adrienne Asterita

“If the people in the audience are talking, you’re being ignored. If the people are gazing at you, you’ve got something they want to hear.” – Chuck Berry.

Pear Tree’s “Learn and Listen Series” is certainly something library patrons have been wanting to hear, as the series continues to fill libraries to the brim!

Most recently, The Englewood Library, Englewood, NJ hosted “The Life and Music of Ella Fitzgerald” featuring Adrienne Asterita. Patrons were singing along and dancing, having a fabulous time. Prior to Adrienne’s performance, and the bio, I had the audience sing “Happy Birthday” to Ella, as she would have been 100 on April 25.

Pear Tree has a new addition to the “Learn & Listen Series” – Sammy Davis Jr.! Librarians, take note, you may want to add this wonderful program to your calendars!

Pear Tree – November 2016

pop-and-meWith my father-in-law “Pop” a few years back

Rest in Peace, “Pop” Mistretta

“If you ask me anything I don’t know, I’m not going to answer.” Yogi Berra

On October 16, I lost my father-in-law, Anthony “Pop” Mistretta, who was the most amazing person. He was 94 when he passed and was still bowling and driving up and down the Garden State Parkway this year! Always an inspiration, Pop gave me great business advice on running Pear Tree, which is why I wanted to dedicate this month to him — and quote from Yogi Berra since Pop was a big Yankees fan.

Like Yogi Berra, Pop has his own “isms” and the best business advice he once gave me was not to worry about the big clients, but rather the small ones. And he was right. As it’s all the small clients that have kept Pear Tree going all these years.

The above photo is my favorite of us because we had so much fun that night. My husband Dennis and I took Pop to see The Characters — our good friend Danny Solazzi’s band. Always up for a good time, Pop and I had one drink after another. Dennis was the designated driver. Near the end of the night, Dennis was getting ready to pay the bill. The waitress came to our table and Pop shouted, “One more round!” The look on my husband’s face was priceless!

To read more about Pop’s life, you can see his obituary here: http://www.galantefuneralhome.com/obits/obituary.php?id=621985

Pop was much loved and this was a great loss for us. For anyone who has worked with Pear Tree, please know that Pop LOVED Pear Tree and his last words to me were, “How is your business?”

And I KNOW he is watching over us, smiling in heaven! ❤
